During stage performances there is a group that works backstage with the lights and sound and scenery. One of the positions on the stage crew is known as the grip. The grips are the ones who move the props around between scenes when the lights go down. And grips are usually expected to wear black or other dark-colored clothing. That is so that when they are out on the stage during scene changes, it will be less likely that the audience will see them. For the worst thing that could happen to a grip would be for a grip to still be out on the stage when the lights come back on. The goal of the grips is to prepare things quickly, quietly, and then to get out of the way unspotted. Joseph tells his brothers, that although they have not been able to perceive what has happened, it was God who has arranged things as they are. Even though it may not have been noticed, God was at work in their lives, ordering things to fulfill a certain purpose. -- Bowen
