During WWII, in a small town in Great Britain, Julian Cotton's parents were gripped with
fear any time they saw a young uniformed man riding a bicycle. Telegrams came in such
a manner and telegrams too often reported that a family member serving in the military
was wounded, missing, or dead.
The Cotton family's frequent fear demonstrates that some messengers change everything for the worse, announcing such things as: "War is declared; your father died; we are bankrupt." However, the same messenger can deliver good news: "The war is over; your daughter is getting married; the business has far exceeded its yearly goals."
Malachi's very name means "my messenger." His pronouncement of a coming messenger can be either good or bad news. The promised coming of the messenger should give us the intent to focus upon the message and to respond to what the Lord has to say.
