Everyone has probably seen commercials...

Everyone has probably seen commercials for the U.S. Army. Those commercials are an invitation to anyone and everyone to join the army. But for those who choose to accept that invitation, something is expected of them in return. What happens when someone joins the army? In very specific ways army recruits are taught how they are expected to live. They are told how they are expected to look in uniform. And they are told how they are expected to make their bunks. They are made to get up at 5 a.m. and to go on five-mile runs. They are taught to look out for one another. And they are taught to see what was wrong with their old way of life, so that they can appreciate what they have by being part of the army. When Peter received his call to join with Jesus, at first he was overwhelmed by the changes that he knew he would have to make in his life. For Peter realized that Jesus was about to teach him an entirely new way of living. -- Bowen
