Frequently at amusement parks there are devices to measure the height of persons before they are permitted to ride a particular attraction. These are to ensure that children under a particular age aren't being exposed to a potentially harmful experience. An advisor for our youth program was a young woman of small stature. When she accompanied our young people to amusement parks as one of their chaperones it was typical for her to secure a special pass that permitted her to ride with them even though she didn't "measure up" to the standards at the entry gates. She was only able to join them because of the "grace" of the park owners in issuing the permit.
