I recently listened to an unusual number performed by the Cleveland Orchestra at their outdoor summer concert site. The piece was "Prismatic Variations" composed by Donald Erb. In addition to the orchestra members, there were also more than 200 children and youth involved in this production. While the musicians from the orchestra were providing music on their lovely instruments, the young people were also providing contrasting sounds on the following items: harmonicas, telephone bells, soda bottles and wine glasses. Each particular sound fit into the composition at a specific place to enhance the sounds from the musical instruments.
Those of us in the audience that evening were amazed at the result of this experience. The composer had taken ordinary sounds and made them extraordinary. The musical piece had become something far greater than anyone had anticipated.
When Jesus performed his first miracle he turned something ordinary into something extraordinary. Those present at the wedding feast were so amazed that they felt their host had saved the best wine until last!
