I wish I could show...

I wish I could show you a picture that hangs in my study. It was given to me by the painter as I prepared to leave a former parish. Let me try to describe its design: the outer edge is octagonal, the corners pointing to the eight major points of the compass. Within that design are many triangles and quadrilaterals in various sizes and colors. Outside the octagon, against a background of the darkest blue are a myriad of stars, portraying our galaxy. In the center of the octagon is a white three-dimensional cross-shaped stars, or star-shaped cross representing Christ.
The artist told me this was his attempt to graphically portray Christ as the center of the universe. While you may only see this in your minds' eye, let me assure you he has accomplished his goal. Look at any part of this painting, to the compass points of the outer design and your gaze will be drawn to the center -- to Christ.
Our Scripture portrayed graphically: from east and west, from north and south shall they come and sit at the table in the kingdom of God.
