It has been said that hotel restaurants are lonely places late at night. Business people
travel, make presentations, or attend seminars during the day, but at night have nothing to
do. Frequently, people gather in the hotel lounge, just to be with other people. While Ron
needed time to reflect on the direction of his life, he did not want to be alone. He sat at
the counter for an hour, reading the newspaper and ordering drinks when Fred sat beside
him.
Fred initialized small talk, asking where he was from and what he was doing in the city. Ron gave short, one- or two-word answers. Fred was in town attending a church growth seminar. When Fred said he missed his family, Ron said that he didn't have a family or anyone to miss him. The two men connected and began sharing about their lives. During the next hour, Ron revealed his hurts and disappointments as Fred listened. Fred began to share his faith and tell how his faith in Jesus Christ made a big difference in his life. Ron seemed open and receptive to what Fred had to say.
In the hotel lounge, Fred prayed for Ron and offered to help him connect to a church in his hometown. Ron accepted Fred's offer to help him find a church where he could begin his Christian journey. The two men exchanged their addresses and telephone numbers, promising to keep in touch.
One day, Jesus saw two brothers, who were fishermen. Jesus called out to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." Immediately, they dropped what they were doing to follow Jesus.
