Lynn had encountered some tough times in the past several years. Her husband had suffered a stroke, forcing her to place him in a rehabilitation program. Their financial picture was not healthy to begin with, but after several months of necessary, but expensive therapy, their savings were virtually depleted. Then suddenly, he suffered a fatal heart attack, leaving her with more bills, no financial security, and a mountain of grief.
Because she had no marketable skills, she decided to enter college and "start over" with her new life. As she did just that, she discovered a delightful element in her life experience. She found that she truly enjoyed reaching out to those persons in need and helping them any way she could.
Sometimes, she merely listened compassionately.
Occasionally, she offered wise counsel from her vast experience in desperate situations.
However, the most ambitious venture in this area of her life came as a result of a hurricane. When the storm ripped up the Atlantic coast, destroying homes, wrecking lives, and indefinitely postponing dreams, Lynn sprang into action. She organized a community wide appeal for goods to help folks in the path of the storm. Her church served as the warehouse for the goods as they came in. And when all was ready, Lynn and her sons rented a truck and personally delivered the clothing, tools, food and hurricane building supplies which had been donated for Lynn's hurricane relief fund.
You see, in the process of rebuilding her own life, Lynn was taking this passage seriously by personally bringing good tidings to the afflicted ... helping them rebuild their lives, as well.
