One day a fellow walked into a bank in Florida. He was getting ready to open up a new account. Suddenly, Walt noticed a name plate in front of a lady's desk. He meandered over to her and asked, "Are you by any chance Richard's mother?" "Why, yes, I am," she replied. "Say, what is old Richard doing now?" he continued. "He is a pastor in North Carolina," she replied again. There was a pause and silence. Walt sat down and said, "Oh, no! You have got to be kidding ... really ..." Then, he proceeded to laugh and to hee haw for ten minutes or so.
He could hardly believe it because he knew Richard and liked him but could not imagine him in such a role. Now, Richard is not what some people would call a minister type. As a child he was rowdy at times, and he was not a spouter of Scripture. But what Walt did not know was that at seven years of age all he wanted was a Bible for Christmas. At twenty-one years of age, he decided to go to the seminary. And during the years in between, God was helping him to become.
Moral: Only God knows what we really can become.
