Once, when the film, The Greatest Story Ever Told, was being shown, an incident occurred that somewhat explains the cross. Jesus' life was being depicted and the audience was hushed as the crucifixion scene reached its climax. One man was deeply moved as he saw Christ agonizing on Calvary. Just as Christ was saying, "It is finished!" a girl sitting in front of him turned to a companion and said, "Let's go. This is the place we came in." The man who was so absorbed with Christ's death was shocked by the casual way in which the girl seemed to dismiss the portrayal of what for him was the most sacred hour in history. Then it dawned on him that the girl's remark was quite literally true. The cross of Jesus Christ is the place where we came in. And that's what the text is about, the place where we came in! 1) the cross, 2) baptism.
