My wife and I went...

My wife and I went for a walk through a city park that had many softball fields. The bleachers were filled with cheering fans and there was activity everywhere. I was oblivious to the activity, however, because my eyes were glued to the ground. I was collecting pop tops from aluminum beverage cans that a local organization needed for a fund raiser, and I knew I'd find many of them in the park, As we walked, I collected 115 pop tops and 37 cents.
When we returned home, my wife commented about the beautiful blossoming apple trees in the park and the wonderful fragrance of their perfume. She asked if I had noticed, but of course I hadn't because my eyes had been glued to the ground. She asked if I had seen Steve and Alice out there playing softball for a local church league, but of course I hadn't because I had been watching only the area around my own feet. She asked if I had seen that the Johnsons had a "for sale" sign in their yard, but of course I had missed it.
How often we walk through life in the same way I walked through that part, our attention focused on the worries and cares at our feet, while at the same time missing the beauty and missing the people. "Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with ... the worries of this life ... Be alert at all times." Look beyond the cares at your own feet and see what the Lord is doing.
