Part of me has always wanted to live in Alaska or the Yukon. Sometimes I get quizzical looks when I admit that, but I would love to see that first real sunrise in the spring after going through a long, dark winter. It would be so amazing to go through that winter of darkness and then enjoy a summer when the sun never really set.
I think about that when I read this passage in Isaiah. After living so long in darkness, Isaiah is the herald of a new dawn: "Arise and shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you!" (v. 1). We can rejoice knowing that as the Spirit lives in us, we have that everlasting dawn inside of us, lighting our way.
