Once a great conductor was rehearsing the orchestra in preparation for a concert. He assumed his position on the podium and looked over the men and women seated in front of him. All eyes were on him as he lifted his baton. He began directing and music came forth from the musicians, blended together, all playing the same arrangement.
An untrained ear would have thought it perfect. But all of a sudden, the director stopped the music. He asked, "Where is the piccolo?" He heard all the other instruments, and they were all doing well. But the piccolo, smallest and quietest of them all, was conspicuously absent. And he missed it.
Christ, the Head of the church, which is his body, blends us all together in harmony. We may have only a minor part to play, but we are important in the making of the music of the kingdom! And the music can never be perfect unless we all play our part.
