One of the economic lessons of the 1990s is that those seeking work and wanting to "get the job done" have to provide the right kind of references. Some provide references who know well what a company or institution represents. These are the sort of references the centurion first sent to Jesus. Others provide references who know well what the job seeker thinks and believes to be true. These are the sort of references the centurion sent to Jesus second. The first references were sent to impress Jesus. The second references were sent to express something else altogether. Jesus understood the difference. Do we? -- Saxon
