One of the most inspiring...

One of the most inspiring sights I ever witnessed occurred during the Charleston (West Virginia) Distance Classic. Every Labor Day Weekend a 15-mile road race is run on the hilly streets of the capital of West Virginia. The first time I ever saw the race I saw a runner, whose name I learned is Harry Cordello. At first I thought my eyes had played tricks on me. Two runners approached. It looked as if one man was running on the heels of the other. As they got closer, however, it became apparent that the lead runner was able to see. The second runner held onto the elbow of the lead runner, he was blind. Together those two men matched stride for stride for the entire 15-mile race. It occurred to me at the time that the sighted runner could easily have pulled away and beaten the blind runner. But the thrill of the run, the cooperative effort required the sighted runner to give assistance to the blind runner. Together they would accomplish a grand feat. We really do need assistance of Christ in seeing life as God intends it. We can run the race with Christ as our sight.
