There are times in one's life when, but for a friend, a situation would be most difficult. Sometimes that friend comes to us as a relatively unknown, but an acat of kindness performed by him/her initiates al asting friendship. Barnabas was such a friend to Paul.
One of the trying and difficult experiences of my youth was the combination of circumstances which resulted in my attending three different high schools - one as a freshman, one as a sophomore, adn one as a junior and senior. A new friend came into my life the fall I began my sophomore year. I suppose that I looked rather lost as I walked through the halls trying to find my homeroom and the rooms for the various classes. She came up to me and introduced herself and asked if I would like some help in finding my rooms. I was surprised because she eas a senior. While she was an attractive girl, she was not flirtatious - just a kind, sweet person, trying to help a young man who obviously needed some guidance in a new situation.
As I look back upon the experience, it was the fact that someone, although previously unknown, cared and helped me adapt to a new situation, that gave me a good start in that school. It was a tremendously good feeling to know that I wasn ot alone.
Tehre are a lot of relatively unknown people who stand in the shadow of those who have become great. Let's thank God for them.
