Perfection has been a central theme within various Christian groups and movements. It's been both a blessing and a bane for the faithful, leading to the good advice from the Venerable Bede, "No one is suddenly made perfect." Today perfection gets mingled with the idea of Robin Hood's arrow "perfectly" splitting an arrow already in the center of the bull's-eye. Americans read of Christian perfection and they think of Olympic athletes with a "perfect" dive or vault.
In the Bible, Jesus is only called perfect three times and never with an adjective (Greek), but always with a passive form of a verb (Hebrews 2:10; 5:9; 7:28). He was "made perfect" by God's grace and his struggle. The goal of "perfection" is best strived for as Jesus learned and taught. Perfection is loving everyone, even one's enemies as Jesus explains in Matthew 5:43-48.
