The performance of an athletic team depends a lot on morale and confidence, perhaps even more than skill. The "high-priced help," for example, the overpaid superstar players, cannot create a winning team if there is little confidence in the ability of each player. That confidence is mainly derived from the ability of the coaching staff who instills a sense of security and assurance by the way it prepares the players for each game.
