Helmut Thielicke tells of the mother whose son decided he wanted to study theology. The mother told Thielicke her friends and neighbors were very surprised by the decision and said to her, "What! Your Johnny wants to be a minister? But he's such a jolly fellow and religion is so awfully sad. Is he, perhaps, having love trouble?" Thielicke reacts: "These good people probably reflect quite correctly the general feeling that the Bible is rather a sad and melancholy book. Isn't it significant in itself that it is bound in somber black, and often, when it is stamped with gold besides, reminds us of a first-class funeral? This book talks about sin and hell and the Last Judgment. If you let yourself in for that kind of thing, you might as well say goodbye to laughter ..."
The Messianic Light is the fullness of light primeval which bathed the first creation and now dawns upon every thing and every creature in the new. It is God's original blueprint fulfilled! In that Light is a new song, much joy and lots of laughter.
