Scientists had triumphed!
The battle against polio could now be waged and won. The scientists began sharing their triumph over polio with the public. Millions were vaccinated for the first time in the 1950s. People no longer had to live in fear of that dreadful disease. Anyone who received the vaccine would live healthy and whole, even if the disease infected others in the community. Scientists had triumphed -- and they shared their gift of health and wholeness generously. Many people today are strong and well because the polio vaccine made its home in us before the polio virus did. Polio no longer holds sway in our lives. -- Spencer
