Sending a representative is one...

Sending a representative is one thing. Showing up in person is quite another. God could have stopped with the prophets. Instead, he sent his own Son to plead our cause. The Roman emperor Augustus was once petitioned by an old soldier and former battlefield comrade. The man was involved in a lawsuit and sensed it was turning out badly for him. He appealed to the emperor to appear in court on his behalf. Augustus, busy with affairs of state, picked one of his staff to speak on his behalf and introduced him to the soldier. The soldier, incensed -- and in some panic -- refused the offered help. Before Caesar himself he rolled back his sleeve to reveal scars he'd earned in war. He shouted, "When you were in danger at the battle of Actium, I didn't choose a substitute. I fought for you in person!" The emperor appeared in court on the soldier's behalf.
