Sometimes it is difficult to stand up for truth when evil rules. Paul was no shrinking violet when it came to his defense of the gospel. With a blazing pen Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, admonishing them to resist evil. In the chaotic chronicle of his perilous times the doughty apostle of truth called the faithful flock in Thessalonica to stand up for gospel truth. During the early days of World War II it looked to many as if the evil of the Axis powers would sweep concepts such as truth and justice into the scrap heap of history. "Not so," said Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his address to the American people on December 9, 1941. "We are now in the midst of a war, not for conquest, not for vengeance, but for a world in which this nation, and all that this nation represents, will be safe for our children. And in these difficult hours of this day, we will know that the vast majority of the human race are on our side. Many of them are fighting with us. Many of them are praying for us. For in representing our cause we represent theirs as well -- our hope and their hope for liberty under God."
