Sometimes suffering is necessary to reach the desired goal. Nathan, a little six-year-old boy, had a wart growing on his face. Although not dangerous, it was unsightly and other children would tease him about it. The dermatologist had tried several approaches but each time the wart would grow back, the virus was not quite defeated. Finally it was clear that the doctor would need to use electrolysis. When the day came Nathan was nervous. He knew it would hurt a little and he didn't like pain. A shot was needed to numb the area and then the electrolysis began. The shot, designed to last only a minute or so began to wear off. Pain began to set in. But Nathan clenched his fists as the pain increased, allowing the doctor to finish the work. It hadn't been pleasant. In fact, for a while he was absolutely miserable. But Nathan had defeated the virus because he had been willing to suffer for a purpose.
