Ted seemed like the rebel...

Ted seemed like the rebel of rebels. As a high school student he just seemed to be at the heart of trouble, wherever it was. His Navy experience ended when he was caught dealing drugs to an undercover investigator. I saw Ted in his jail cell later in life. Today, Ted struggles with life, divorced and distant from two children he truly loves. But it was not always that way for Ted. At a terrible time in his life, Ted turned his back on his old lifestyle, and entered a rehabilitation program. We who know Ted well can vouch for the dramatic change that came over him. He invited Jesus Christ into his heart. He asked God to forgive his sins. He claimed the promises of the Holy Scriptures for his own. He became a new person. The old truly passed away and the new came. His whole countenance changed. Old habits vanished. He used a new vocabulary, and he was pleasant to be around. He openly shared his new faith journey. He praised God for a new start. Then it happened. Ted met up with a group who practiced "cheap grace." Their motto: "once saved, anything goes." Ted slipped into his old ways because he was told it was all right. The old Ted has replaced the new Ted. Should saints sin? God forbid. We must be careful that the very church which seeks to win the lost doesn't help lose the ones they've won to Christ.
