There is a childhood game called Simon Says. The leader instructs the others to do something, which they are only to do if "Simon says" is said before the instruction. "Simon says, raise your right arm." Then, all raise their right arms. "Raise your left arm." Nobody had better raise his left arm! Anyone who now raises his/her left arm without having first heard, "Simon says," is dismissed from the game. Even if the person were to drop his/her right arm before being told to do so by "Simon says," the individual would have to sit out. It is a game of imitation, paying attention with careful listening. The last person standing gets to become the new Simon. Paul is bold to be the Christian "Simon says." He enjoins us to imitate him, as he lives as a friend of the cross of Christ.
