There is an uncomfortable quality to these beautiful words from Baruch. One doesn't really catch a sense of God's purposes ranging much further than the borders of Israel. Does the Advent promise mean that "our crowd will shine?" Much of our own political rhetoric confines the promise to a most favored nation, our own. But, then, we can only feel uncomfortable with these words because the Messiah who came refuses to be entrapped by dreams that are too narrow.
