A tragic newspaper story...

A tragic newspaper story recently told of a group of friends who were in a boat on a lake when a storm arose. One of the men foolishly stood up in the boat, raised his arms high, and shouted words smiliar to "Here I am! Strike me!" Lightning immediately flashed from the clouds and the man was killed.
One would not presume to say that God deliberately struck the man down for his defiant act; but one could safely say that the man broke the laws of nature which God has established, and he paid a dear price for his foolishness.
Jesus, during his temptation experience in the wilderness, was told to leap from the pinnacle of the temple. But Jesus answered, "You shall not tempt the Lord your God." (Matthew 4:7)
God's laws are to be kept, not broken. It matters not whether they are the laws of nature which he has established, or the Ten Comamndments given to Moses. One thing is certain: when we sin, there is a resulting consequence of that sin. Christ tells us that "Every one who commits sin is a slave to sin." (John 8:34) But he also offers hope and forgiveness in his words of instruction to Paul: "Open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me." (Acts 26:18)
