Warner Sullman's The Head of Christ is probably the best known painting of Jesus, at least in the West. It graces countless Sunday school classrooms, children's bedrooms, and family parlors. In the painting we see Jesus' right profile as he gazes off into the distance. His eyes, forehead, and hair are suffused with heavenly light. Was the artist trying to remind us of the Transfiguration or that we see the glorious light of God in the face of Jesus Christ?
