The watchman ... and his blessed feet.
Christmas is God's decision to spill heaven all over earth; to mingle time with eternity; life with death; and to spread spirit all over matter. Jesus is God's love and power poured out to us -- for us -- in us. The peace that comes while we watch and wait is a real peace. It's not just the absence of conflict, but peace. It's not just release from stress, but the presence of God in your heart. It's not just the absence of hassle, but the presence of joy. This peace is the reason our very feet are blessed.
At a nursing home on the morning of Christmas Eve, a lady who once was able to play the piano well did her feeble best to play Christmas carols. When it was announced that she would be playing again after lunch, one of the uninhibited ladies in a wheel chair shouted out: "Oh, no." There is an "enough already" component to the peace we know on Christmas Eve. Enough already. Enough! Blessing comes to those who have enough and know it. Some even break forth into singing -- and others know not to go there.
