We are told that...

We are told that the Lord blessed Obed-edom and his household. We do not know what those blessings were. Did his wife have a child? Was an illness turned away? Did he suddenly become prosperous? Whatever it was, it happened within three months, and the blessing was obvious to others.
King David, too, heard of the prosperity of Obed-edom. He took it as a good omen from God, then completed his plan, and brought the Ark to Jerusalem. In all this, Obed-edom and his family become examples of those who receive the benefits of a religion they do not accept. While he and his family guarded the Ark, they were being guarded and blessed by God.
Down through the years there have been many benefits of Christianity for nonbelievers. The arts owe a great deal to Christian people. Many of the great masterpieces were painted as acts of worship prompted by hearts of faith. They still inspire believers and nonbelievers alike. Some of the greatest musical compositions repeat the stories of Scripture. Their themes, their words, their beautiful harmony flow out of the Christian faith. They will stand for all time among the best music. Just so, drama found its place early in the life of the church.
