"What's your favorite symphony?" he asked me.
"Handel's Water Music," I replied.
"I don't believe I know that one," he said. "How does it go?"
So I tried humming a few bars. That didn't work. Next I tried whistling the major theme. Again to no avail. One simply can't represent a symphony's sixty-piece orchestra by whistling. "Come on over to my place and we'll put it on the stereo and you can hear it for yourself," I said.
And it's the same with evangelism! In the text Philip is telling Nathanael that he has met Jesus Christ. Nathanael isn't sure what this Christ is all about, so he scoffs. Frustrated, trying to tell him all about Jesus with mere words, Philip finally tells Nathanael to "come and see." This is always our invitation. Don't take my word for it. Don't experience him second-handedly. Come and see for yourself!
