When the family gathered for their parents' golden wedding anniversary, preparations had been going on for -- well, it almost seemed like 50 years! No detail was left unconsidered by the children, whose only desire was to share the great day with a loving family, and to give honor to the parents who had surrounded them with love for all their lives. The anniversary day came and all went off without a hitch. Friends came from far away to rejoice with them, a fine meal was shared, speeches were made, and Grandma and Grandpa almost danced the night away as they had first done so many years ago.
Not wanting to spoil the party, Grandma waited until the next day to tell her children the news: she had cancer, and probably had only a few months to live. The family's memories of the "golden day" would ever after be composed of both joy and sadness.
