When followers of the Ayatollah Khomeini overran the U. S. embassy in Teheran in November 1979 they seized more than sixty Americans. Six others had fled and were hidden by the Canadian embassy. Antonio Mendez, a highly-trained Trailblazer for the Central Intelligence Agency, devised a scheme to rescue the six. He prepared documents identifying them as a Canadian motion picture crew scouting the country for the filming of a movie. He even invented a movie, titled it Argo, and had a fake script written. Press releases touting the film were published in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. He disguised himself as a European member of the film crew, flew to Teheran, helped the six with disguises and false identities, and led them to Swissair Flight 363 and to freedom.
