While we may despise Haman for what he was plotting to do, let us not overlook what Americans did in fact do when it came to hangings. In the 14-year period between 1886 and 1900, a period of reconstruction in the South after the Civil War, there were more than 2,500 lynchings reported, perpetrated upon the black population in the United States.
