The year 2004 had some very high profile court cases that seemed to monopolize the headlines for days on end. We heard more about Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jackson than we ever wanted to know. Judging from the amount of media coverage, one would think that the outcome of these three cases could change the course of human history. Then, when you think about how many millions of dollars were spent on the defenses and prosecutions of each case, you want to dig deeper to find any world-changing results that would justify this degree of assigned importance.
However, while all three cases have great implications for a few people, there is really nothing earth-shattering or world-changing about any of them. At this writing, Scott Peterson has been found guilty, investigations are still under way in regard to Michael Jackson, and a civil trial is pending for Kobe Bryant. The sun will still shine tomorrow and life will go on.
But when Jesus Christ went to trial, the earth did hang in the balance. The results of that trial would change life forever for all of humankind. In spite of that, the world paid little notice. Jesus had said, "The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed ..." small beginnings with enormous results!
