Message: Have you ever had the fun of watching young children when they are just beginning to talk? I can remember when our children were beginning to speak they usually start out with one sound like "DA" or "MA." They are so proud when they can start to make those sounds! And before you know it they start to make a lot of those sounds together! They will say, "DADADADADADADADA" or "MAMAMAMAMAMA-MAMA." As they get a little older, those sounds start to take a more definite shape and form words that they understand: "DADA ... MAMA." Over time that changes again and the names become even clearer: "DAD ... MOM ... DADDY ... MOMMY." All of you went through that process when you were little, even if you can't remember it now.The Bible talks to us about the names that we can call God. As I listen to people, I see those names falling into two basic groups. There are those people who like to speak of God as though He is way off in the distance somewhere. They call Him the Supreme Being, or the Almighty God, or something like that. Those names are correct and are all right to use for God. However, the Bible also has another name that it says we should use for God and this is "Abba." That sounds like a very strange name. It is one that we don't use very often today. It is a name that means the same as all those other names that we started talldng about today. "Abba" means Father, or Daddy. It is the name for God that reminds us that He loves us even more than our parents love us! As little chilthen have to learn to speak the name of their mom and dad and to come to understand how much they love them, so it is with God. He wants us to learn to trust Him, and to come to Him with confidence saying God, Father, Lord, thanks for all you have done for me!
