Call To Worship
Leader: Create in me a pure heart, O God,
People: and put a new and loyal spirit in me.
Leader: Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation,
People: and make me willing to obey you.
Collect
O God, as we draw near to you in worship help us to see ourselves as others see us. We have done many foolish things just to satisfy our own desires. We need your loving forgiveness and your Spirit within us to overcome our selfish ways. Come into our hearts, Lord Jesus, come. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, we have no one to blame for our failure to keep your commands. In your great mercy forgive our mistakes, confront us with the truth about ourselves, and help us once again to get on the right path. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"All People That On Earth Do Dwell"
"Softly And Tenderly Jesus Is Calling"
Proper 13/Ordinary Time 18
Sunday between July 31 and August 6 inclusive
Second Lesson: Ephesians 4:1-16
Theme: The Unity Of The Body
Call To Worship
Leader: I am the Church, you are the Church.
People: We are the Church together.
Leader: When we are children we think only of ourselves. When we mature we are supposed to put aside childish ways.
People: We must grow up in every way to Christ, who is the head of the Church.
All: There is one God and Father of all people. Come, let us worship together in a spirit of unity.
Collect
Lord, we come together in a spirit of unity. Speak to each of us that we may realize our particular gifts, and prepare us to use them to build up the Church as Christ's body on earth. We pray in Jesus' 'name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, often we have been blown about by every shifting wind of teaching, as some new religious fad sweeps across our path. Help us to grow up to Christ, and stand firm in his teaching that all his children are needed for the Church, his body on earth, in order fully to carry out his mission. Keep us from all pride and prejudice that prevent us from accepting others who may differ from us, but who share our faith and our knowledge of the Son of God. Amen.
Hymns
"Awake, O Sleeper"
"Many Gifts, One Spirit"
Proper 13/Ordinary Time 18
Sunday between July 31 and August 6 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: John 6:24-35
Theme: The Bread Of Life
Call To Worship
We come seeking the Bread of Life -- the food that lasts for eternal life. Jesus said, "I am the Bread of Life. Those who come to me will never be hungry."
Come, all you who are hungry for the Bread of Life, and let us worship together.
Collect
Almighty God, we know that we do not live by bread alone, and so we come seeking that Spiritual Bread that can sustain and nourish our whole selves. As we seek you in this time apart from the demands of the world, may we feast on that eternal bread found in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, how foolish we have been. Our spirits have been starving for nourishment, and yet we have refused the Bread of Life which is ours simply by turning to you. Open our hearts and minds that accepting you we may gain new life and vitality, now and always. Amen.
Hymns
"You Satisfy The Hungry Heart"
"O Food To Pilgrims Given"
