Advent 4

Aids To The Psalms
Exploring The Message
I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
With my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all
generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to my servant David:
'I will establish your descendants forever,
and build your throne for all generations.' " Selah
Psalm 89:19-24
Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful one, and said:
"I have set the crown on one who is mighty,
I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have found my servant David;
with my holy oil I have anointed him;
my hand shall always remain with him;
my arm also shall strengthen him.
The enemy shall not outwit him,
the wicked shall not humble him.
I will crush his foes before him
and strike down those who hate him.
My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him;
and in my name his horn shall be exalted."
Alternate Image
The Singer is working on the terms for a trust fund. She has
labeled this trust fund, "Aid for the Search for the Common
Good." In the clauses and provisions of the document
the Singer states this money is to be used to help her nephews
and nieces, cousins and children and their children to search for
their meaning in life. The money can be used for higher
education, travels about the countryside, any means by which the
recipients seek to find the call that God has given them here on
earth. The money is a covenant between the Singer and the
inheritors; She will provide the funds they are to receive. It is
a trust fund built upon trust; trust in the future, trust that
the funds will be used to benefit more than just those who
received the money but also those who will benefit from their
callings. It is a trust fund that seeks to emulate the covenant
the Singer has enjoyed with God.
Reflection
The melody of the song leader pulls our minds to David, one of
our greatest leaders. Our minds fill with thoughts of our
leaders, our special relationship with God and naturally reflect
on God's plan. As the music fills the air, we see that God's plan
is not just for our nation, but for all nations. And, as God
found David and appointed him to be significant in God's plan,
the Lord also comes to each of us and gives each of us an
essential purpose in that unfolding plan. We too can hold our
heads high knowing that we are about God's will and God is with
us in all our lives.
How great it is to have a sense of purpose in our lives.
Direction and meaning gives us zest, power and importance, not
that we are important and powerful on our own, but we receive
God's power which is so much greater than our own. Our dreams are
always limited, but God's dreams are vast. Our importance is
derived in knowing that we play significant, important, even
indispensable parts in God's plan, God's dream for the world.
What confidence and well-being we have when we realize who and
whose we are; that we are a part of God's story -- history with
purpose and meaning. As we think of this great blessing, songs of
praise well up in our hearts and minds as well. We fill our lungs
with God's spirit and our lives sing forth God's praise.
