The Ascension Of Our Lord
Worship
Lectionary Worship Workbook
Series III, Cycle A
Object:
Service Notes
On this Thursday evening, gather for a potluck, guided conversation, hymnfest, and closing Eucharist. Let the theme be on what it means to be a witness (Acts 1:1-11). Just why is it that Jesus had to go away? What does it mean to be a witness? Have any of them been called to be a witness in a court setting? What characteristics make for a good witness? Have a general discussion about witnesses and then sing a few hymns about the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. Then read one or more of the texts for the day and ask your folks about what they are called to witness to. You can assure them that they will be clothed with power from on high! Singing a hymn such as "Alleluia! Sing To Jesus" you can process together to your sanctuary for the Eucharistic meal. The Eucharistic Prayer from the previous Sunday (Easter 6) would be appropriate.
Sending
P: You are my witnesses, says the Lord.
You are my witnesses.
May every thought, word, and act be filled with love,
and may every fiber of your being give glory
to the ruler of the universe.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, +
and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
