Call To Worship (Psalm 51:1, 6)
One: Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
All: You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Collect
We quiet our hearts and open our minds to your presence as we gather on this solemn occasion, aware both of our sins and of the opportunity for forgiveness. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
(Worshipers come forward. As ashes are applied one worship leader says:)
Receive these ashes as a reminder of those sins that separate us from God and each other.
(The worshiper walks to the side. A small towel is dipped in water and handed to the worshiper by a second worship leader who says:)
Receive God's forgiveness, now and always, and walk in the light of God's love.
(The worshiper may wipe away the ashes.)
