Exploring The Message
Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;
worship the Lord in holy splendor.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,
and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl,
and strips the forest bare;
and in his temple all say, "Glory!"
The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!
Alternate Image
The Singer has written a new song about God's creation and
wishes to record it in a special way. He sets off for a majestic
waterfall where tons of water cascade over its cliffs each
moment. There the Singer records the first verse of his song.
Next the Singer waits for a thunderstorm and in the
thunderous midst of the storm the Singer records the second verse
of his song. The Singer moves to the location in a city where
they are building a new skyscraper. Amid the cranes, trucks and
steel workers the Singer records the third verse. For the final
verse the Singer goes to a forest where the winds gust mightily
between the trees. Back at his studio the Singer listens to the
finished song. On his recorder he hears only water plunging and
gushing, the thunder crashing, the sounds of construction and the
mighty rush of the wind. Perfect!
Reflection
Sometimes in our efforts to praise God we just heap attention
on ourselves. Instead of lauding God's creation we lift up our
own talents and efforts. We do not need to apologize for the
gifts and talents that God has given us, but it is very important
to remember the purpose for which those gifts were given and to
make every effort to ensure that it is God who is praised rather
than ourselves.
