Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Baptism Of Jesus
Call To Worship
We worship Christ as the Lamb of God, for he takes away the sin of the world. We worship Christ as the eternal Word, for he embodies the nature and will of the Father. We worship Christ as the Light of the World, for he reveals the way to Life Eternal. Come, let us worship him.
Invocation
Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father too, we remember that John the Baptist pointed out that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God for not just a few, but for the whole world. So as we come to celebrate Jesus' baptism we would renew the vows we made or were made for us at our own baptism. We renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the Church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, and our service. By the power of your Holy Spirit strengthen us in this resolve. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Confession
O Lord, our Heavenly Father, as we think upon your Son's baptism we recall the vows made on our behalf or that we ourselves made at the time of our baptism. We confess that contrary to those promises we have not always resisted evil, injustice, and oppression; nor have we put our whole trust in your grace. Forgive us, we pray, and strengthen our resolve to serve you as our Lord, all our days. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord, as we personally need the Holy Spirit to be effective in our Christian life and witness, so we also need your Holy Spirit's power to give vitality to these gifts. By your divine energy may these offerings of money become translated into a dynamic experience of your concern and love. Amen.
Hymns
"This Is The Spirit's Entry Now"
"Jesus! The Name High Over All"
"When Jesus Came To Jordan"
