Be A Good Thermometer

Object: a thermometer
Good morning, boys and girls. How are you feeling today? (let them answer) Everybody feels fine. That's good. But suppose you didn't feel so good, and your body ached, and your ear hurt, and everything seemed to be going around in a circle. Then what would you tell someone if he asked you how you felt? (let them answer) That's right; sick. Now if you were really sick, and I sure hope that you don't get sick, your mother or father would take you to the doctor. At the doctor's office a nurse would say hello to you and then, before you could hardly answer, the nurse would put something in your mouth or in your ear. Do you know what would be put in your mouth or ear? (let them answer) Right, a thermometer. What does that do? It tells the doctor what your body temperature is, and it helps the doctor to decide what kind of medicine to give you. A thermometer tells the doctor what kind of an infection you have and how your body is fighting the infection. The doctor can tell from the thermometer on the outside what is going on in the inside. A thermometer is very important to a tell about your illness.
In a way we are thermometers for Christianity. People can tell a lot about our church and what our church thinks of Jesus by watching us. If we are full of love, kindness, and enthusiasm about Jesus, then people will think a lot about Jesus and the things that he teaches. If we are rather cool and uninterested toward Jesus, then they will know that we don't think that he is very important. When we are filled with Jesus, we are always looking for ways to help others and share the good things that we have with them. When we are empty of Jesus, we are then very greedy and unhappy.
That is the way people can tell if we have Jesus in us or not. We are like a thermometer, and whatever that thermometer says on the outside is what we are like on the inside. There are a lot of people who have found Jesus as the Savior because they liked what they saw in other Christians they knew. I suppose there are some people who have never known about the love of Jesus because they felt that some of the people who called themselves Christians are not any different than they were.
Be a good thermometer and show everyone how much you are for Jesus and how you have plenty of his love to share with them, just as he shared his love with you.
