Both Ears Tingling

Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle B
Call To Worship
Leader: We listen for the way God calls to us.
People: Would that God spoke so clearly that both of our ears were set to tingling.
Leader: In the child Samuel, God chose someone who did not yet know God enough to recognize God.
People: Samuel was lucky. Samuel was ready to listen when God called him by name.
Collect
We come to you, O God, half wondering what message you would give us were you to gain our attention. Teach us to listen. Help us be as persistent children in perceiving your call. Teach us to be as straightforward as Samuel in answering, "Here I am." Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We are grateful, O God, that you keep track of us. We are thankful that you call us by name. You have enough concern about the individuals of your creation to give each one your attention. You call repeatedly until we realize it is you summoning us. Amen.
10B Hymns
"Before Jehovah's Aweful Throne" Tune: OLD HUNDREDTH or WINCHESTER NEW
"Like A Mother Who Has Borne Us" Tune: AUSTIN
"Here I Am, Lord" Tune: HERE I AM, LORD
Second Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Theme: Not Our Own
Call To Worship
Come into the holiness of this place that has been dedicated to the worship of God. Come here as people recognizing the holy unity of body, mind, and spirit. Come as people united in spirit with God.
Collect
We welcome the unity we share with you in spirit, O God. May the respect and care we offer you reveal itself in the way we treat our bodies. Let the actions of our whole being reflect our praise of you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Forgive us, O merciful God, when we ignore that anything harmful we do to our body also damages our innermost being. You are so close to us that when we hurt ourselves we also hurt you. Forgive us when we forget that. Increase our understanding that anyone united to God becomes one in spirit with God. Through the Holy Spirit. Amen.
10B Hymns
"O God, Thou Art The Father" Tune: DURROW
"I Am [Thine][Yours], O Lord" Tune: I AM [THINE][YOURS]
"Forth In [Thy][Your] Name, O Lord, I Go" Tune: LAKEWOOD or MORNING HYMN
Second Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: John 1:43-51
Theme: Nathanael
Call To Worship
Leader: Cynicism, wariness, distrust, doubt -- the attitudes of Nathanael's time also are words of our time.
People: Surrounded by the safety of people who have chosen faith, we come here to make known our questions.
Leader: Are our words of uncertainty a protective impulse or a yielding of attitude choice?
People: We come here to find encouragement as we increase our faith.
Collect
We choose, O God, to shed the negative attitudes that thwart our journey into faith. For the sake of Jesus. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We think we go about our lives largely unobserved, O God. Then we discover how much we reveal through body language, facial expressions, the gait of our walk, the activities we choose, and the places we go. Lead us toward being equally transparent in the living out of our faith. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
10B Hymns
"As With Gladness [Men][Those] Of Old" Tune: DIX
"[All][He] Who Would Valiant Be" Tune: MONKS GATE or ST. DUNSTAN
"Once In Royal David's City" Tune: IRBY
