Call To Worship
Leader: The Lord is great
People: and is to be highly praised.
Leader: We have heard what God has done,
People: and now we have seen it.
Leader: This God is our God forever and ever.
People: He will lead us for all time to come.
Collect
Almighty God, how great you are. You have blessed us beyond measure, and given each of us gifts that would enable us to serve you by ministering to your children. We come this morning with open minds and hearts seeking your will for our lives and asking your help in discovering those talents and skills we have allowed to lie dormant. Through your Holy Spirit may we not only acknowledge these gifts but also have the courage and determination to use them in accordance with your will. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, we confess that hidden talents serve no purpose in your kingdom. Forgive our shyness, our reticence, our unwillingness to trust you, and make us willing to be faithful stewards of that which has been entrusted to our care. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Freely, Freely"
"We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder"
Proper 9/Ordinary Time 14
Sunday between July 3 and July 9 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 12:2-10
Theme: God's Grace Is All You Need
Call To Worship
Just as we all have strengths we should be sharing, so, too, we all have weaknesses. When we are able to deal with those thorns in the flesh by the power of God's grace, that, too, we need to share.
Come, and in our worship may we discover anew God's grace that makes us strong.
Collect
Eternal God, your presence enables us to carry on when we are beset by trials that threaten to undo us. Armed with your love, we find that the rough places are made plain, and we are able to walk in newness of life. May all people praise you and find your presence in their lives. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, remove from us all self-pity. Keep us from whining and complaining about our weaknesses or our frailty. Make us indeed as new creatures who have overcome our shortcomings, and substituted the things we can do for those we no longer are able to do. Help us to see those gifts you have given us that we may be filled with patience and hope that will enable us to be realistic about our abilities. Amen.
Hymns
"Praise To The Lord, The Almighty"
"Rise, Shine, You People"
Proper 9/Ordinary Time 14
Sunday between July 3 and July 9 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 6:1-13
Theme: Dealing With Rejection
Call To Worship
It is frustrating to witness to God's love, and to be rejected. We worship a God who understands how we feel because he has been there, too. Nevertheless his message to us is one of hope and determination.
Come, let us worship the God of hope!
Collect
Lord, when our neighbors and especially our own families do not respond when we witness to your love, keep us from discouragement. In this time of worship revitalize our faith. Help us to renew our determination to be your witnesses and to leave the results in your hands. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Sometimes, Lord, when we are rejected we tend to become argumentative, belligerent, demanding, and emotional. Infuse us with your Holy Spirit that we may never stop loving, and help us to accept rejection as we move on to other opportunities. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"O Young And Fearless Prophet"
"God Will Take Care Of You"
