Aids To The Psalms
O sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and his holy arm
have gotten him victory.
The Lord has made known his victory;
he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.
He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the victory of our God.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the world and those who live in it.
Let the floods clap their hands;
let the hills sing together for joy
at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.

The Singer has been commissioned to write a new song. A song of celebration. A song of triumph. A song of God's marvelous accomplishments. The town is abuzz with activity as it prepares to dedicate a new sanctuary, a new sanctuary to replace one that had been destroyed by their enemies. The church is renewed, the people revitalized, new energy burns throughout the community. God has brought them victory through a foreign agent and the people resolve to serve God with renewed energy and vigor. They are a changed people who sing God's praises and do God's will in all the ordinary activities of life. The Singer finishes his composition which attempts to capture the rejuvenated faith of his people. He invites them and their enemies to sing, encourages them to use the tools of their vocations to praise God. The Singer entices nature, the sear to roar and clap their waves, the hills to reverberate with the sound of faith alive.
Reflection
Someone has speculated that there are symphonies being played by the molecules and atoms of our bodies. It is believed there is music everywhere in creation, we just need a means by which to listen to this music, earphones to an internal walk-man. Is there music in the noises of your life? Do you hear a melody in the ringing of cash registeres? Do you hear a symphony played by office machines? Do you feel the strong percussion beat of a factory? Do you hear nature break-dancing in a storm? Or is it all just a cacophonous din? God is successful always. God continuously claims victories for us if we but have eyes to see and ears to hear. God's providential care of the world continues faithfully through all times and places. Let us join the chorus of celebration of God's steadfast loving faithfulness.
