Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: The Birth Of Jesus
Call To Worship
Let our hearts be filled with joy and our voices with praise as we keep the festival of our Savior's birth. As we approach the mystery of the Holy Spirit born in history, may our hearts be stirred with the gift of faith. May Christ be born anew in us in joy, power, and peace.
Invocation
Almighty God, you have loved us as a father loves his children, and gathered us into your arms as a mother cradles her infant. We praise you for your coming among your people as a baby to live and grow in our care, and to care for us in your great love.
We give you thanks for Christmas and for the newness of life it contains. Especially we thank you for the gift of your Son whose birth we celebrate: for his life, for his death and resurrection, and in whom is our hope and our love. Amen.
Confession
Lord, on this day when we celebrate your coming into the world, the past seems so far away and the present so filled with problems. We know in our hearts that you are with us in our time of need, but we feel so alone that we don't listen to our hearts. Help us, Lord, to trust your promise, so that once again we may be aware of your holy presence within us, offering us the guidance we need in these troublesome times. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O God, bless these gifts which we now offer that they may announce the good news of your love, heal those who are broken in body and spirit, and hasten the day of your justice and peace. In the name of the priceless gift of your Holy Child, we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O Little Town Of Bethlehem"
"It Came Upon The Midnight Clear"
"Silent Night, Holy Night"
