Cycle C, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us gather together this day and bring worship and praise to the Lord.
People: What may we bring, or what sacrifice can we make before Almighty God?
Leader: Let us bring the love in our hearts and our caring for our neighbors.
People: And let us seek justice in the world for all who are not powerful or rich.
Leader: God loves a cheerful heart, so let us celebrate in song and praise!
All:
Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and loving God, in Your wonderful mercy and grace You have called us to carry Your love into the world, reach out to the poor, and seek justice for all. We praise You, O Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we often have taken for granted Your mercy and grace, and we have not sought to extend Your gifts to others. Many times we have settled for seeking our own comfort and left the battle for justice in the world up to others. Forgive us, Lord, and open our eyes to the injustices around us so that we might get involved and truly make a difference. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Take Time To Be Holy"
"Jesus Loves Even Me"
"Onward, Christian Soldiers"
Proper 14
Sunday between August 7 and August 13 inclusive
Second Lesson: Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16
Theme: Citizens by faith
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who trust in Christ as their Lord and Savior come now for worship.
People: In things large and small we trust Christ in all that we do in life.
Leader: Faithful and true are the qualities shared by those in the Kingdom of God.
People: We can believe in no other because there is only one true living God.
Leader: Let our hearts be glad, for God calls us heirs in Christ our Savior.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most gracious and loving God, even among the ancient ones You counted the faithful among Your children. Touch our hearts, Lord, and give us the wisdom, courage, and strength to be faithful. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have let ourselves believe that it is the good things we have done rather than our faithful hearts that will earn our place in Your kingdom. We have even let ourselves entertain thoughts of our actually being worthy to be called Your children. Forgive us, Lord, and let us always be Your faithful and obedient servants. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"My Faith Looks Up To Thee"
"At The Cross"
"Have Faith In God"
Proper 14
Sunday between August 7 and August 13 inclusive
Gospel: Luke 12:32-40
Theme: Be faithfully on watch
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who love and worship the Lord come together!
People: Let us gather together in the security of God's house.
Leader: Let us rest in the safety of God's loving arms.
People: We pause together to worship amid the storms of life outside.
Leader: Then let us give praise to God this day for our eternal safety.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty God, Lord of all, give us the strength to keep our focus on You and not to let the noise of the world around us detract us from being prepared for Your return. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we often allow our lives to be overshadowed by the problems and fears of the world, and we live in despair rather than accept Your hope and love. We have often become voices of defeat rather than living witnesses to Your victory on the cross. Forgive us, Lord, and give us faith that we might lead others to You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Victory In Jesus"
"When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder"
"When We All Get To Heaven"
