Call To Worship
Leader: Sent to bring good news to the oppressed,
People: Sent to bind up the brokenhearted,
Leader: To proclaim liberty to the captives,
People: To release the prisoners,
Leader: To comfort all who mourn,
People: Sent to replace a faint spirit with the mantle of praise.
Leader: These are the messages of Advent.
All: Let us give praise to God.
Collect
The covenant you make, O God, is no flighty promise but a vow to affirm creation forever. The recompense you offer is no quick-burning sugar but substantial food for the soul. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We come to you, comforting and compassionate Savior, with the hope of being worthy to receive the covenant you make by sending your long-awaited Son. May all -- nations and towns, officials and families, leaders and children -- arise with renewed vigor to meet the challenges of our day. In the name of Christ. Amen.

Theme: Hold Fast
Call To Worship
Leader: May the God of peace sanctify you entirely; and may the unity of your spirit and your soul and your body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Come, let us worship the God of peace.
People: Let us give praise to God.
Collect
Be faithful. Be staunch supporters of the faith. Be firm. Be unwavering. Hold fast to what is good. With the strength and encouragement of these words, O God, we hear again our responsibility in receiving the Christ Child. We affirm wanting to do our part to make ready for the holy birth. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
In our hearts, O God, we know what is right. In these days of many distractions, we would remain focused on what is just, moral, and honest. Help us to screen our words and actions through the teachings of Jesus. Guide our lives as we try to stay faithful to the good. For the sake of our Savior. Amen.
03B Hymns
"Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" Tune: PICARDY
"Wake, Awake, For Night Is Flying" Tune: WACHET AUF
"O Come, All [Ye][You] Faithful" Tune: ADESTE FIDELES
Third Sunday In Advent
Gospel: John 1:6-8, 19-28
Theme: Who Are You?
Call To Worship
"Who are you?" they asked of John. "What do you say about yourself?" How would you answer these questions were God to ask them of you? In light of the coming birth of Jesus, how would you answer? As we prepare for worship, let us take a few minutes to respond in our hearts. Please turn to your neighbor and give voice to one or two words about yourself.
Collect
We come here, O God, as your people with the special identity of being your children. We come with all our diversity of plans, beliefs, backgrounds, and credentials. We come as yours in expectation of your coming in human form to us. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
"Who are you?" This question calls us to attention. The list grows from defining ourselves in terms of our relationships to ascribing particular qualities, from listing our accomplishments to decrying our shortfalls. "What do you say about yourself?" stirs both our protective nature and our open, hopeful side. What do you say about us, O God? What are your words spoken through the action of your sending your Son to us? Amen.
03B Hymns
"On [River] Jordan's Bank The Baptist's Cry" Tune: WINCHESTER NEW
"Tell Out, My Soul" Tune: WOODLANDS
"O Little Town Of Bethlehem" Tune: FOREST GREEN or ST. LOUIS
