Story Time At The Altar
86 Messages For Children
In the beginning God created Earth. One day Earth thought, "Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were humans to enjoy and celebrate my beauty?"
However, Earth, created by God, could not create humans, so Earth told God her idea and God thought that it was a good one. God took some of the clay out of Earth and breathed it alive, and having created from Earth, from humus, called them "humans."
Then God decided that God would be their home when they died, but because Earth thought up the idea of humans in the first place, she would be their home while they lived. But God could not let go of what God had created in love and became the home of humans here on Earth, as well.
There are many creation stories. Another says: In the fullness of time there was a great, silent, magnificent, burning ball of fire, the universe filled with energy. And God shouted, "Let there be!" and the burning fireball exploded and sparks flew out into the empty space and there was light. And it was good. From that ball of fire came stars and galaxies, mountains and seas, flowers and trees, and millions of years later, people, aware of the beauty and wonder of the universe. And it was good. From the people came sacred stories of God's love and their worship of God. And in the fullness of human time a man called Jesus of Nazareth was born, sent from God to show us God's love. And it was very good.
Talk together: Can you tell us another story of creation? Read from Genesis.
Prayer: God, we thank you for the earth and all its creatures and pray that you will help us learn how to care for it and do it. Amen.
